Small craft advisory: what fishers and ferry users should know

What happened
The Met Office has issued a small craft advisory for Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Seas are building to 2.5–3 metres with fresh winds, mainly on the Atlantic side.
Why it matters
A small craft advisory is not a storm warning. It's a heads-up that conditions are dangerous for small boats — open fishing pirogues, small pleasure craft, and dinghies — even when the sky looks fine.
Who is affected
Fishers, ferry passengers between Grenada and the Sister Isles, dive and tour operators, and anyone planning to take a small vessel out.
What to do
- Delay non-essential trips in small craft until the advisory is lifted.
- If you must go out, wear a life jacket and tell someone your route and return time.
- Check the ferry operator's notices before travelling to Carriacou.
- Secure boats and gear at moorings.
The advisory is expected to remain in force until winds ease midweek.
